Assyouti is an Egyptian artist and DJ based in Berlin and is considered one of the most influential hard drum/bass artists from the Arab world. His work channels a frenetic energy encountered throughout his development as a musician. Assyouti juggles sonic mutations of hypermodern bass, distorted dancefloor snaps, and percussive club experiments and channels this sound into a cohesively polished production. In 2021, Assyouti has been stationed in Berlin and has earned local notoriety. Since then he has had the opportunity to perform at notable festivals including Uganda’s Nyege Nyege and Berlin’s CTM Festival 2023.
In this latest mix, exclusively on SONDUKE, Assyouti offers a distinct sound that speaks to a younger generation that appreciates hard drum fragments. The Egyptian artist leads us through a stellar selection of aggressive bass-drum tracks, opening with Sd Laika’s ‘GREAT GOD PLAN,’ a stellar start with a meaty synth rhythm that leaks like a corrosive discharge. The over-rippling sound design continues to drift within the mix, a nod to Assyouti's artistic expression that tackles percussive beats, leading the listener into a dark, melancholic reality, interrupted only by his in-depth examination of a deep, full-toned bass that grounds the listener far from the abstraction of a sonically induced pensiveness.
